Ignacio Bilderraya petition in the United States Court of Claims : Los Angeles, Calif., 1856.

Printed legal petition claim, possibly printed for the attorney representing Bilderraya, seeking to recover the sum of $6800 for 18 mules loaded with Mexican goods commandeered from him by American military forces in September,1846 in San Jacinto, California during the Mexican War and never returned. The claim states "Your Petitioner [Bilderraya] was on his road from lower California to Los Angeles, with a cargo of Mexican goods. At San Jacinto, San Diego County, your Petitioner was met by Lieut. Pedrorena, acting under the orders of Commodore Stockton, and who took from your Petitioner, the property set forth in said exhibit [A], stating that the same was required for use of the American Forces." Exhibit A lists 18 mules with Mexican Pack saddles valued at $1800 and 18 loads of Mexican goods consisting of serapes, rebosos and playing cards valued at $5000. The petition is unsigned and contains only the printed names of J.D. Stevenson, attorney for the claimant, and Ignacio Bilderray, with a printed X underneath it representing his signature mark.
